START - Students and Refugees Together

Casework Services at START

Casework Services

START offers a ‘one to one’ casework service to refugees and asylum seekers and works in partnership with both individuals and families. The service is holistic and looks to utilise the strengths and skills of service users both past and present.

The support offered depends on the individuals unique circumstances and might include registering with a Doctor, opening a bank account, finding a playgroup, applying for training courses, getting appropriate benefits advice, looking for work and finding somewhere secure and safe to live.

START casework promotes all aspects of integration, working alongside service users and strengthening connections with communities in the city.

"The Refugee Housing Support Service (RHSS) works with people who have been granted leave to remain and supports them in finding  their own permanent accommodation. This service is delivered in collaboration with Path and is funded by Supporting People."

How to access this service:

Access to START casework and the RHSS service is through referral. Referrals can be made directly by the individual seeking support or by referring agencies.

  • Download the appropriate referral form below, and return it, completed, to START.
  • Alternatively, If you have Refugee Status you can attend a RHSS drop in session:

    • START Drop in: Every other Friday, 4.00pm-8.00pm
